I was watching the movie Little Buddha a few minutes ago. I thought about all the stories I have heard - of men who lived their lives in order to pursue a mission. Their determination overcame the obstacles on their paths to achieve their 'personal legends' as Paulo Coelho would sum it up like his Santiago, the shepherd. The lives they led were not very different from the lives you and I lead today - they probably encountered the same doubts and fears, the same attitudes in the people around them (thousands or hundreds of years ago, that too!) - but they broke free of all the social and personal fetters that one often finds himself or herself imprisoned in. Ordinary men and women transformed their lives into legends to remember by accomplishing what they set out to do. Maybe that is what alchemy is all about - finding your destiny - and reaching it! Not just mundane gold - but a life of immeasurable value dedicated to finding your Goal (yes, Goal with a capital G - for what could possibly be more sacred than what you have come here, to this moment, to do!). Not an immortal life on earth but a life of immortality in the memories of men for as long as our race continues to live!
Look at the lives of Lord Buddha - or the Christ! Listen to the glorious words of Lord Krishna or witness the miracle of the birth of a free nation from one small revolutionary idea of one man called Gandhi. Be touched by the compassion of a lady saint who cared for lepers in the streets of Calcutta or watch the genius of mankind in a thousand little things we find an indispensable part of the world. Find your dream and live for it. You never know if living your little dream today will change how the entire world lives tomorrow!
