Some of the best lessons I have learnt in life are the simplest ones - "self-discoveries" - I call them. Here's a small list putting down the things I believe in after having experienced some pretty hard knocks.
- Time changes everything - your worst enemies might become your best friends - if you give them a chance.
- You are lazy if you procrastinate, can't complete the small tasks you set for yourself. There is no punishment meted out to you. How can someone punish you for something you haven't done? But the disappointment, guilt and failure of succeeding at the little things in life make you lose out on the better things as well. Not doing anything is truly worth nothing.
- Living in the past kills the present. Living in the future buries today in a grave.
- Explore yourself - of all the unlisted wonders in the world, you probably head the list - and you don't even know it! Be best friends with yourself.
- Smile as often as you can :-)
- Draw clear boundaries in all your relationships. There is no such thing as unconditional love - except in rare cases - neither do you give it to others - nor can you expect it in return.
- Be realistic. Reality helps you keep your feet on the ground - even if your head is up in the clouds. Heaven is what is there and you can see. Hell is what is not there but you create!
- Make friends wherever you go.
- Learn something new everyday. It makes life more fun. Don't live the same life 365 days a year!
- No matter what that 'someone else' thinks, read positive books. You will be surprised at how good and energetic an hour with 'The monk who sold his Ferrari' or 'The Secret' or Og Mandino's books can make you feel.
- Spend time getting to know your family. Just like you change, they do too - and it's worth more than every second that goes into it :-).
- Never give free or frequent advice. Hmmm - that includes this sermon. But there are times someone, somewhere gets inspiration from what you say or write. You never know when there is a thirsty flower waiting for that one drop of rain to nourish it's roots. Be positive in what you say to others - not irritating.
And on that note, I take your leave..............
