Dad has left back to sweet Bangalore while amma is staying behind - making loads of yummy food and life a whole lot easier for me in Japan. I think by the time she goes back to India, I am going to be as lazy as I was before marriage!
We have had a blast - driving down to Yokohama to see Kamakura and Sea Paradise and visiting Nikko will remain in our memories for ever. If there is one place I will always be in love with in Japan, it is Yokohama. The fresh sea breezes, the lovely Pacific and the tranquil atmosphere compared to the hustle bustle of Tokyo - it is paradise for me! And not to forget the friendly dolphins at Sea Paradise - who are so affectionate and clever. When they make out humans standing near their cage, they are always obliging enough to swim close enough for us to touch them - or just see them! This time, one dolphin playfully splashed water at Thilak - which the trainer explained to us as the dolphin was having a good time as well. Dad loved touching the dolphins - and that too, he never likes animals much!
Talking of dolphins, Thilak told me this interesting story - being from Tuticorin which is a busy sea port, he heard that many a time, when the fishermen went fishing, if they happened to catch a dolphin and it was still alive, they would release it immediately in the same place where they found it. Apparently, dolphins have a single mate for life - and when a dolphin goes missing, it's mate can be found in the same place where it was caught to return. If the dolphin never returns, the mate remains single for the rest of it's life or sometimes dies in the same spot. Sounds like filmy love - but then, it goes to show how intelligent these adorable creatures are and how much we should be putting our best foot forward to protect them!
And of course, there was beautiful Nikko - we started on a cold, misty morning and Nikko, being well above sea level, burst into a glory of sunshine, colours, rivers, lakes and majestic pines as we entered Tochigi ken. Never have I remembered of Japan being so beautiful before - so it was a treat for our eyes! We sailed our way across Chuzenji lake, watched the Kegon falls tower over our heads, ate a picnic breakfast and lunch on the banks of rivers and lakes - it was a wonderful time to remember!
But more than the trips we made, we had so much fun at home - especially Dad who came out of his shell and cracked jokes with Thilak that we never knew he could crack - but it was rib tickling all the same!
We also happened to watch the longest solar eclipse of the century cross Okinawa on TV as well as right outside our window together, watched HP6 and went on HUGE shopping trips to Yamada Denki and Jusco.
Now that Dad has left for India, life has become more relaxed and quiet - we all have gotten back to doing our work in time. Amma loved the Buddhist temples and the 'fish-stream' (as I call it) walk I took her on yesterday. Today we are planning to go and feed the giant fish living in the stream!
Good times may not last forever - but their memories do. And this is one of the best times of my married life!
Love,
Divya
