A long weekend from heaven

We spent last weekend driving long and far, roaming across the eastern coastline of Japan. As our eyes never grew tired of ravishing the sapphire blue of the placid Pacific, and hearts never stopped feeling like this must be heaven, we walked, talked and captured memories in photos of a hopelessly lovely Shizuoka in a dream trip straight from paradise. It's probably during moments like these one realizes what it is like to fall in love over and over again with Japan.

Watching Mt. Fuji tower over our heads, the calm Pacific with it's sparkling silver blue waters, standing atop windy cliffs with breath taking views, the joy of meeting old friends after months of separation and tearing down the highway at speeds of 150 km/hr - it was a trip to cherish and treasure!

Be it the rocks of Jogasaki, the shrine on top of the wind swept cliffs of Isosaki or the heady thrill of riding the Shizuoka giant wheel at night, watching the city lights twinkle down so far below with a golden half moon gracing the sky - oh, I couldn't stop describing the beauty and the poetry in those precious moments.

And our happiness when we met the Japanese Senseis at the Shizuoka Friendship Center (who dished up the best Japanese dinner I have ever had! 'Made with love' they said when we couldn't get tired of praising the meal.........) was as much as the joy I had in meeting the Doi family in Hikone. Though Maki chan and Kana chan had grown, they were as sweet and familiar as ever and I felt we had not been long apart, that it was just yesterday we had met to play chess and Othello or delight in delicious sweet potato treats or piping hot vadas!

In short, an unforgettable trip with many loving memories tucked in carefully - like diamonds in a field of gold.
