The most frequent problems in any sort of relationship are either an unforgiving attitude or non-acceptance of the other person.
Lack of forgiveness comes when there is a general feeling of high expectations (of the other person) which are not being met. It is wiser to remember that nobody is perfect - and it is compassionate to give the other person a chance to set things right. And drop the expectations if they are too high for the other person to achieve - everybody, is after all, human.
Those who are forgiving, tend to face an unwillingness to come to terms with the reality of the situation or the other person. When the truth is resisted, the feeling of resentment deepens to such an extent that it can wreck havoc on the relationship. One needs to be more accepting of what the situation or other person really is, to move on with life, to be able to let go and live.
